What is the difference between Travel MedEvac and Travel Insurance, Health Benefits and Premium Credit Cards?

Typical emergency medical coverage, trip cancellation and lost luggage coverage plans limit medical evacuation to the “nearest adequate facility”. This still leaves you stranded far from your home hospital where you may endure possible financial limits to the medical treatment you receive. Unlike these policies, your Travel MedEvac membership will not leave you stranded and instead provide you hospital-to-hospital air medical transport to your home hospital of choice with no deductibles or out of pockets costs.

When will my membership be active?

Your membership will be active upon electronic confirmation of approval, which typically takes up to two business days. A copy of your membership plan summary will be sent by email.  Members enrolling in an annual, long-term or expatriate plan will also receive membership cards by mail for the primary members on the account.

What if I am hospitalized but don’t have my membership information or membership card with me at the time, am I still covered?

Although we recommend you carry your membership information with you or have electronic access to it for convenience, you are not required to carry it for coverage.  We do suggest, however, that when you do travel or live away for an extended period, you share your membership information with close family and friends so someone has a copy in case of emergency.

How many transports am I allowed each year? 

Annual members are allowed up to two (2) transports per year per member, but no more than one (1) in any 6 month period. All short term plan holders of 30 days or less are allowed one (1) transport per member.

Is there any limit on the expense of an air medical transport? 

No, there are no dollar limits for any air medical transport or medical escort and no hidden fees. The membership fee is all you pay. Our preferred provider will manage all of your care from hospital-to-hospital which includes air medical transport, ground ambulance transports, all medical crews and pilots, plus all medications and medical devices needed for your successful return.

What is the definition of a Couple/Companion Membership and Family Membership? 

A Couple/Companion membership includes the primary member, plus one (1) spouse, relative or friend.  A family plan includes the primary member, plus one additional related parent or guardian and up to five (5) dependents 18 years of age or younger and/or under the age of 24 and enrolled at an accredited university or college as a full-time student.

Does my health insurance policy cover medical evacuation?

Health insurance may cover your emergency evacuation to the “nearest adequate facility” when traveling outside your healthcare network or country, but it will not bring you to your home hospital of choice. This could leave you stranded hundreds or thousands of miles away from home. Medicare does not provide any coverage for emergency evacuations when traveling outside the US..

How will my companion or family members get home if I am medically evacuated as a Travel MedEvac member? 

Our preferred provider will allow a companion and additional family member(s) to join the patient on the aircraft back home.  This is important for both the patient’s comfort and the family member(s) during such a stressful situation.  However, the health and safety of the patient will always be the priority.  If in any circumstance the return of a companion or family member could be detrimental to the patient’s health, the family’s health, the companion’s health, or the health and safety of the crew or aircraft, then a return of a companion or family members with the medical transport may not be granted. If we are unable to transport a companion on the medically configured aircraft, Travel MedEvac will arrange for a commercial flight to the nearest commercial airport of the hospital where the patient has been evacuated for the designated companion.

If I have a pre-existing condition can I enroll in a Travel MedEvac membership?  

Yes, you can enroll for a membership with pre-existing conditions. However, there is a 90 day period after enrollment where any hospitalization or diagnosis in the previous 90 days prior to enrollment is not covered if hospitalized due to that pre-existing condition.  If a member has a planned or scheduled hospitalization known at the time of enrollment, the medical transport will also not be covered for any issues related to such planned hospitalizations.  A medical transport to a “specialty hospital” in the United States approved by your health insurance will be provided at no out of pocket cost to the member.  A pre-existing condition is defined under terms and conditionsof the membership plan. Many pre-existing conditions are accepted.  Your application will be a reviewed and a decision is typically made within 2 business days pending any follow-up that may be required to approve your membership.

What does repatriation of a member’s mortal remains include and how is it done?  

Travel MedEvac will pay for the return of a member’s mortal remains.  The member’s family or legal power of attorney will provide Travel MedEvac the name of the receiving mortuary upon a member’s death.  Travel MedEvac will work in conjunction with the mortuary making the arrangements to return the member’s mortal remains.  Travel MedEvac will pay the mortuary direct for the expenses related to the repatriation of the member’s mortal remains.   This service includes the preparation of the remains for transport which includes embalming or cremation, death certificate, a suitable container for transport by commercial air and ground transport to the receiving mortuary.
